Carrollton Carpet Cleaning Snyder’s Carpet Care walks you through removing common spots and spills.

Carpet CleaningDepending upon the source of a spot in your carpet you may not need to call a professional. While we cannot guarantee that following these steps will completely remove the spot, these methods will find success for most people. You can always hire us if you want a professional to perform a deeper clean of your carpet or if these spots and spills leave a stain that’s simply too stubborn to come out.

Quick Solutions for Common Spots

  1. Wine – Wine drinkers know that these liquids can be a real problem, but there is hope. You should begin by first absorbing as much of the spill as possible from the carpet. Your next step is to combine both 1 part hand dish washing detergent and 2 parts hydrogen peroxide. This will create a chemical product that is perfect for removing wine stains. Apply this by thoroughly spraying the spill and placing a plastic wrap on top so that the chemicals have time to work. After around 2 hours remove the plastic wrap and repeat the process as necessary.
  2. Food – Food can cause many homeowners headaches. Fortunately the solution is pretty simple. Begin by removing all of the food left on the carpet so that you have as clean an area as possible to work with. Then, combine your hand dish washing detergent with hot tap water into a spray bottle and spray the spot thoroughly without over-wetting. Gently blot the area (never rub as this can cause carpet fiber damage!). Continue as necessary.
  3. Urine – Older stains should be removed using the same process as described for wine in step #1. For fresh stains, simply apply baking soda on top of the urine and vacuum when dry. The baking soda will act as an absorbent to the urine.
  4. Candle wax – Candle wax really shouldn’t cause you too much stress. First, begin by removing whatever bits of wax you can that is not directly melted into the carpet. Next, using your iron and some clean towels, set your iron to the lowest setting available. BE CAREFUL NOT TO SET THE HOT PART OF THE IRON DIRECTLY ON YOUR CARPET AS THIS CAN CAUSE CARPET FIBER DAMAGE. Place a clean towel between the carpet and the iron and with the iron set to low gently iron over the wax to melt it. The purpose is to have the melted wax transfer to the towel so be sure to reposition the towel as necessary.

Again, we do not guarantee 100% spot removal, but these steps should satisfy most spots and spills. If you are having problems removing spots from your carpet please give us a call at 972-898-3886.
